Whimper!

The dak galbi was delicious tonight. Afterwards we went out to a pool hall and played pool until after one, at which point I had to leave because I was too miserable to stay out any longer. Whatever I have is definitely getting worse. My throat is killing me, and the Korean drugs aren't helping anymore. My fever is higher, too.

I've decided to give in and skip going to watch the Cherry Blossom Marathon in Boman. I'll still go ahead with the rest of my plans for Saturday, but at least I'll spend the morning resting. Maybe, just maybe, I'll feel a bit better by the afternoon.

The Korean situation is about the same today. North Korea is upset because South Korea supposedly sent three warships into their territorial waters, so Kim Jong-Il threatened to reduce South Korea "to ashes." Nice. None of my Korean acquaintances seem very perturbed by the recent tension; they think the North is just all talk. I hope they're right, and they probably are. Still, the situation is worth keeping an eye on.

"Passage—immediate passage! the blood burns in my veins! Away, O soul! hoist instantly the anchor!
Cut the hawsers—haul out—shake out every sail!
Have we not stood here like trees in the ground long enough?
Have we not grovell’d here long enough, eating and drinking like mere brutes?
Have we not darken’d and dazed ourselves with books long enough?

Sail forth! steer for the deep waters only!
Reckless, O soul, exploring, I with thee, and thou with me;
For we are bound where mariner has not yet dared to go, And we will risk the ship, ourselves and all.

O my brave soul!
O farther, farther sail!
O daring joy, but safe! Are they not all the seas of God?
O farther, farther, farther sail!"

~Walt Whitman, "Passage to India"
