Yeah, I'm Sick

Denial is getting me nowhere; it's time to just admit it: I am sick. I have no idea what I have, but it is decidedly unpleasant. I went to a pharmacy yesterday and got some good drugs from the English-speaking pharmacist, so my throat isn't hurting as much now. I am pretty sure I have a decent fever going, my body feels like two ogres played ping pong with it, and my sinuses are trying to set the world record for snot production.

I had the morning off, which was wonderful. I listened to music, did the dishes, and loafed around. All I have to do now is survive eight classes, all of which are expecting fun games today. Ugh. I really hope I can convince the kids to play hopscotch - it's the easiest game. Then I'm supposed to go out with friends tonight for dak galbi, which I refuse to miss. The cheesy rice alone would be enough to make me crawl from my deathbed. Saturday is the Cherry Blossom Marathon, which I was planning to go watch, and the going away party for my friend Clare. If I can just survive all the fun, I can collapse on Sunday (I hope).

I may have to stop by the store today and invest in one of the masks Koreans wear everywhere when they're sick - at least it would help me not spread my illness. I'm just glad that I didn't get this "whatever-it-is" on Monday - my week would have been miserable to get through.

"Passage—immediate passage! the blood burns in my veins! Away, O soul! hoist instantly the anchor!
Cut the hawsers—haul out—shake out every sail!
Have we not stood here like trees in the ground long enough?
Have we not grovell’d here long enough, eating and drinking like mere brutes?
Have we not darken’d and dazed ourselves with books long enough?

Sail forth! steer for the deep waters only!
Reckless, O soul, exploring, I with thee, and thou with me;
For we are bound where mariner has not yet dared to go, And we will risk the ship, ourselves and all.

O my brave soul!
O farther, farther sail!
O daring joy, but safe! Are they not all the seas of God?
O farther, farther, farther sail!"

~Walt Whitman, "Passage to India"
